EM 352 Centroacinar Cell

Centro-acinar Cell

Transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of an intercalated duct that invaginates into an exocrine acinus. The duct is lined by a flattened epithelium that includes some exocrine (acinar) cells. These are known as centro-acinar cells and extend up into the lumen of the acinus.

  • intercalated Duct Cells (green)
  • Centro-acinar Cells (dark green) – only the apical region of several exocrine cells is visible at the top
    • Zymogen Granules (purple)
  • Basal Lamina (purple) – surrounds the duct

Subcellular Structures

  • Nucleus (blue) / Nuclear Envelope (purple)
  • Mitochondria (red)
  • Endoplasmic Reticulum (cyan)
